Project
Info:Global Citizens in Action (GCA) is a
virtual exchange and civic engagement program that connects secondary school
students and educators in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the US through a dynamic
curriculum on cultural exchange, media literacy, and global citizenship. Run by
Global Nomads Group, in partnership withPEACE and School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA), GCA students
engage in intercultural dialogue, explore media bias, utilize technology, and
collaborate across cultures. By equipping students with these critical 21st
century learning skills, GCA fosters leadership and motivation for youth take
positive action in their local and global communities. The 2013-14 program is
funded by the US Embassy in Islamabad.

Summary
of Position:
Reporting to Project Managers at
PEACE and GNG, the Islamabad Project Coordinator is responsible for
implementing all aspects of the Global Citizens in Action (GCA) program in
Pakistan and will be based in or near Islamabad.

PRINCIPAL
DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
·      Work with PEACE Project Manager, GNG, and SOLA to
implement GCA Pakistan activities (leading in Islamabad, supporting in Karachi),
including: educator professional development, student workshops, virtual
exchanges (videoconferences, online platform), and youth arts/media projects
·      Recruit Pakistani secondary schools and educators for
the program and select youth participants in a transparent process;
·      Liaise with Pakistani schools/educators throughout program
to implement curriculum activities and virtual exchange with participants,
ensuring that all are held in a timely and safe manner;
·      Support the technical components of the program
(videoconferencing and Internet/computer technologies, creation of student
media projects);
·      Provide English-Urdu translation (written and verbal) of
student and educator materials, activities, and virtual exchanges, as needed;
support facilitation of student dialogue;
·      Help moderate discussion on program's social
media platform that strengthens youth cultural exchange, including research and
posting of current/relevant news events and articles, etc.;
·      Support the completion of monitoring and evaluation
activities with educators and students throughout the program;
·      Complete administrative duties (record
keeping, phone calls, emails);
·      Oversee special events/projects, as
assigned;
·      Adhere to the highest educational and
organizational standards in the completion of the program, sharing information
in a transparent and timely matter, respecting customs and cultural
sensitivities implicit in working in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the US, and
representing the program to external parties in an appropriate and competent
manner

QUALIFICATIONS:
·      Post-graduate / Masters degree or equivalent;
·      3+ years experience working with secondary school youth and
educators; intercultural/global education preferred;
·      Strong understanding of global issues and Pakistani, Afghan, and
US relations;
·      English and Urdu/Punjabi/other fluency; written and verbal
translation skills desirable;
·      Strong computer/Internet skills; previous experience with
videoconferencing, online networking, and digital media production preferred;
·      Strong listening and communication skills; previous experience
in dialogue facilitation or conflict-resolution preferred;
·      Experience working with US or other
foreign government programs and familiarity with reporting requirements preferred;
·      Must have flexible working hours based on program (time zone)
demands;
·      Ability to travel domestically; possibility of international
travel;
·      Team player, collaborative, adaptable, and self-motivated;

Logistics:
* Period: 12-month role (October 2013 – September 2014).

* Hours: Full time (~40 hours/week)
·         Salary:  US $400-500 / Month, contingent on experience
Organizational
Background:
Peace Education and Community Empowerment (PEACE)is non-political,
non-sectarian voluntary social welfare organization based in Sindh, recognized
and registered with the Pakistani government. The mission of PEACE is to work
for interfaith harmony, the betterment of education, community empowerment, and
development of sustainable peace in Pakistan, primarily through educational
programming in secondary schools and awareness projects in surrounding
communities.

Global Nomads Group (GNG)is an
international NGO, based in New York, US, and Amman, Jordan, whose mission is
to foster dialogue and understanding among the world's youth. GNG engages and
empowers young people worldwide using media, including: interactive
videoconferencing, webcasting, social networking, gaming, and participatory
filmmaking. GNG operates at the intersection of international and peace
education, striving to bridge the boundaries of cultural misconceptions and
instill in our audience a heightened appreciation and comprehension of the
world in which they live.
